'Real Housewives of N.Y.' sets sights on Lora Drasner

"The Real Housewives of New York" producers are aggressively pursuing socialite Lora Drasner, a wealthy, statuesque blond whose hobbies include taking pictures of sunsets while traveling the world, for the upcoming season eight of the reality show.

"She's been offered a slot multiple times and is speaking with producers, but she is doing her due diligence. She is asking a million questions and asking current cast members out to lunch and shopping trips to try to feel them out," says our network insider.

Drasner, the 50-year-old wife of former New York Daily News co-owner Fred Drasner, leads a fairy-tale life, jetting around the world while her hubby funds her artistic endeavors. In 2010, clad in a ball gown embroidered with "Lora Drasner Carnegie Hall June 12" on the train, she played piano to a crowd gathered in at the famous venue. It was a fifth-anniversary present from Fred, who had rented Carnegie Hall for $9,500 to showcase his wife's talents after a year and a half of piano lessons.

In 2008, she hosted a gallery show of her photos of sunsets from trips around the globe, including shots in Tahiti, Australia, New York, the Caribbean, Fiji, Bora Bora, St. Lucia, the Bahamas, Greece and Hong Kong.

"She's interested (in "Real Housewives"), but she's not sure what it entails," adds our source. "Bravo really really wants her."

We've learned that for the new season, Bravo and cast member Heather Thomson mutually agreed that Thomson would quit the show.

"She's boring - not in real life, but on the show," says our source.

Current "RHONY" stars Ramona Singer, LuAnn de Lesseps, Bethenny Frankel, Sonja Morgan, Carole Radziwill and Dorinda Medley all hope to return. Kristen Taekman likely will not.

The season seven finale has been split into three episodes, we hear, and will begin airing in two weeks. On next week's finale, MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts appears on the show as a surprise guest at a party at the Top of the Strand.
